Melissa Stampf

Primary Care Handler

Melissa Stampf (Primary Care Handler): Melissa grew up in Long Island surrounded by many rescue dogs, the last of which was Barney, a foxhound her parents found at a garage sale where a family was looking to rehome him. She later lived in the Yardley area of Bucks County, where she cared for two rescues, Chase and Cole, and Stella, a Sato pup rescued from Puerto Rico.

A retired locomotive engineer from LIRR, Melissa once managed to stop her train to save a pup tied to the running rails one morning. She got off the engine, rescued the dog, and brought it aboard the train with her.

Melissa now resides in Towson with her wife, stepson, and two pups, Jeep and Sophie. In her free time, she enjoys watching football, playing poker, and exploring the trails around Baltimore, often bringing Sophie along on her walks. She loves meeting and spending time with all the amazing pups at Grateful Dog.
